Minimalist Bible: Creation Day 6

I've been a big fan of the minimalist poster designs. Taking something as complex as a person or a movie and stripping it down to one powerful graphical element that is instantly recognizable. I wanted to do something unique; something that had never been done before. So God hit me alongside the head with an idea: Bible stories. If you wish to see the previous posters, check out Creation Day 1Creation Day 2Creation Day 3Creation Day 4, and Creation Day 5 now.

Each Wednesday over the last few weeks, I have been unveiling my original minimalist poster series focused on the Creation story. Today I'm excited to release the seventh and eighth posters of the series, Creation Day 6 – Part 1 and Creation Day 6 – Part 2.

Creation Day 6 – Part 1 and Creation Day 6 – Part 2 come from Genesis 1:24-31 & Genesis 2:7, 21-22 (NLT) which says, "Then God said, 'Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.' And that is what happened. God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, 'Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.' So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.' Then God said, 'Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.' And that is what happened. Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day."

"Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man."

All I can really say about Day 6 is that God saved the best for last. God created all the wild animals that we watch on Discovery Channel on this day! It is like God got up, went to His creative room—which would be the coolest room ever—and popped out an elephant, then a yellow jacket, then a puma, then a flea, ...you get the idea. In a single day, He produced numerous animals of all shapes and sizes, all with unique and special abilities.

But, this day of creation wasn't finished yet. THEN, He created humans! Scripture says God created us to be like Him. We are created in His image and we are replications of Him. That is a HUGE honor if we really think about it. God could have made us look different from Him, but He wanted to create us to look like Him. He created us to be something special. He sees something more in us than in any other animal on the planet. He sees us being friends on a planet that He created. He desires to have friends to share His creation with. Life, breath and friendship—that is a major blessing, honor and the coolest gift I will ever receive. How great is God!?
