My Most Challenging Aspect of Becoming a Parent

Becoming a parent is certainly—by far—the most challenging transition I’ve ever experienced, and simultaneously the most beautiful and rewarding. Everything about becoming a first-time parent is hard. But, if I’m honest, the most challenging aspect I experienced personally was the unsolicited advice I received from others. In today's blog post I'm sharing a perspective that will hopefully encourage any other new parents who are experiencing the same challenge.

Why Miller Park is special to this Cardinals fan

Since the baseball season is winding down and my beloved Cardinals lost to the Giants last week in the National League Division Series, I realized that I never posted about the time Amber and I went to a Cardinals/Brewers game back in early September—a couple weeks before we moved to Raleigh, NC. At that time, the Cardinals and Brewers were fighting for first place in the National League Central Division and this series was pivotal to see who would make it to the Playoffs. Knowing this, I purchased the tickets months before the series in fear that I wouldn't get the chance to experience an amazing game in a very meaningful place with a beautiful woman.

Find out why Miller Park is so important to this Cardinals fan...

Cards v. Rays at Busch Stadium

For Christmas last year, we got my brother, Kyle, and his wife, Kelly, tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at Busch Stadium. They could pick any date they wanted. The only catch was that they had to let us go with them. We ended up settling on July 22nd, when the Tampa Bay Rays would be in town to face off against the Cardinals.

This one time: Cubs v. Cards at Wrigley Field

Back in April, a friend of mine sent me a Facebook message wondering if I would be interested in purchasing some Cubs/Cardinals tickets from her. I couldn't type fast enough to say yes to the idea. As a MASSIVE Cardinals fan, I couldn't pass up an ESPN Baseball Tonight game, while the Cubs are celebrating 100 years at Wrigley Field. The stars were aligned that glorious day.

Remembering Our Freedom

Memorial Day Weekend is the beginning of many things:

  • Summer
  • Grilling and yard games
  • Outdoor activities
  • Camping & hiking
  • The first bad sun burn
  • Higher consumption of hot dogs and burgers
  • Crazy shopping deals at your local mall
  • Rebuilding the flip-flop callus between your toes

Even though the list can go on and on, I want to stop here for a second to remember the TRUE meaning of this holiday.

Racine Senior Portraits | Connor

We've known Connor and his family for quite some time. He's currently finishing up his senior year at Case High School (Racine, WI) and is one of the smartest people I've met. He's got a knack for computer technology and programming—can't wait to hear about all he accomplishes in the future! Although he's quiet when you first meet him, my favorite thing about Connor is when his quick witted sense of humor comes out. We had a great time together at his session last September. In my opinion, he rocked these shots!

I hope you enjoy these photo highlights from his senior session...

Bright Side Youth Ranch: RESCUE. HOPE. INSPIRE.

Every designer has a "top 5 projects" list that they absolutely loved working on in their career. For me, creating an identity system for some of my closest friends so they can live out their God-given dream has easily made my list.

Bright Side Youth Ranch is run by Devin and Tia Tharp. We've gotten to know each other over the past five years through an adult small group, three mission trips, many youth retreats, various projects and countless meal times. We've seen firsthand how God has used them in their jobs, ministries, relationships with others, their marriage, and even in the raising of their two awesome children—Leyton and Brynley. Amber and I were truly honored to help them create the visual identity for their greatest adventure yet.

Read all about their organization and our design process for coming up with their logo and identity...
