Here’s another old Session I can’t wait to share with you in the spirit of summer fun. This quick documentary shoot for the Collins family at their farm was part of some practice photography I was doing for a workshop I was taking back in 2016. Many of these laid inspiration and vision for what I strive for in my current Sessions!
This hot, sticky weather has me reminiscing some of my favorite summer Sessions of the past. Last July, I had the opportunity to document the Eberle family as they awaited the arrival of their third child. I hope you enjoy these image highlights of their summer fun together.
There are an infinite amount of memories created inside homes. When Cody came to me with the idea of documenting his family interacting in their home before their parents sell it, I got SO excited. Cody and his brother basically grew up in this beautiful Wake Forest home with their parents and grandmother. Their interactions in this space are representative of so many special times together.
When I photographed Alex and Katie's Maternity Session back in January, none of us had any idea that their sweet baby would be born just eight days later! They were still tossing around names for boys and girls at that time... On January 21st, they found out—it was a boy! I loved documenting their season as new parents of a precious, healthy newborn! The interaction of their dogs changed a little, and both grandmothers were present for this extra-special Session. Enjoy these image highlights...
We've got around 50 days to go before we get to meet our Baby #2, and it has me feeling all kinds of nostalgia. I realized today that I never actually featured Elias's birth story publicly, even though we had an amazing birth photographer. At the last minute, we had to use our 'Plan B' birth plan, and it disappointed me to the degree that even the images brought back sour feelings. But, Elias's birth was still incredibly beautiful, so today, I’d like to be vulnerable and honest enough to share his birth story, along with some tasteful image highlights.
About five months ago, I had the honor of documenting the daily life of one of my favorite families. Not only am I encouraged by the way Blake and Jessica lead their family, but their practices of faith, health and wellness are beyond inspiring! This Session is memorable for lots of reasons I think you'll agree with: adorable kids, sweet cuddles, wood chip eating, nose-picking, surprise visit from a slimy critter, sibling squabbles, family dinner, and more.
When our son was about nine months old, he was going through a phase where he would throw fits if he wasn't getting something he wanted immediately. My level of annoyance had reached a new high, and I found myself in a silly monologue with him, like he could understand my reasoning. Afterward, it hit me—so THIS is how God sometimes feels about me as his child!
My husband and I don't give each other Valentine's Day gifts. WAIT—before you make a quick judgment, it's probably not the reason you think it is... We don't hate the holiday, we're not making a point, and we're not just trying to save money. It's also not because we're cold or heartless. Read on to learn what we've discovered about each other over the years that has strengthened our love for one another.
Documenting this special season of pregnancy for Alex and Katie was a treat! They were due to have their baby in a few weeks from this January 13th Session, so the peaceful mood and expectant preparations were beautiful to me. Plus, I think you'll smile at the sweet involvement of their two dogs (their first two real babies!) in these image highlights...
When you have kids, the concept of "time" becomes all distorted and mysterious. On one hand, they are growing so quickly right under your nose, but on the other hand, the days can begin to feel long, monotonous, and "normal." This short post is a challenge to stay engaged.
Have a fancy digital camera but no idea how to use it? If you want to learn about "exposure" and other foreign camera lingo, curious about what the heck your camera’s dials and buttons do, trying to bust out of the limitations of the auto mode, or just desire more "pizazz" in your photos, this Crash Course is for you...
A while back, I had the honor of documenting the everyday, real life of the Schulte family. I can tell you confidently, after only a few hours of being a fly on the wall, it is definitely no walk in the park to have four kids under four, especially when two of them are twin baby boys. Yet, I walked away so impressed and inspired by what I witnessed!
Later this week, Chad and I will have been married ten years. How is it possible that all those years have passed so quickly? Then, at the same time, it feels like we have always been together; it’s so normal and natural and right. We have squeezed in SO many adventures, so many highlights and also lots of challenges. “Happily ever after is not a fairy tale. It’s a choice," and more on our daily decisions to fight for each other and not against...
Becoming a parent is certainly—by far—the most challenging transition I’ve ever experienced, and simultaneously the most beautiful and rewarding. Everything about becoming a first-time parent is hard. But, if I’m honest, the most challenging aspect I experienced personally was the unsolicited advice I received from others. In today's blog post I'm sharing a perspective that will hopefully encourage any other new parents who are experiencing the same challenge.
Tarah and John adopted Aria a little over a year ago and their new life as a family of three is inspiring, fun, spontaneous and filled with more love than you can imagine. Their pups add another level of excitement, too! For this 8-hour Session, they had me document them decorating their home for Christmas + many of their favorite, everyday activities. Check out these highlights...
Brinson and Kaitlyn [and their two sweet pups] sure know how to get ready for the holidays. I love this documentary Real Life Session that captures their current chapter of life perfectly...
Last month, we had our Documentary Family Photographer come out to our house and capture our everyday life—giggles, fits, play time, work time, neighborhood walk and all. Perhaps they'll give you something to smile about and give you a glimpse into our world.
My husband and I are BOTH professional photographers. I’m committed to documenting our family life every single day, which means the camera is out and handy at all times. We have TONS of personal photos of our family, but we STILL choose to hire a photographer for these four specific reasons.
I love seeing our son get excited about printed photos of us together. Even as a photographer, I am terrible about getting photos printed, though. For that very reason, Chatbooks rocks! It's a simple, no-brainer approach to having current photo albums in our house. (This post includes a freebie link, too!)
This October we've been celebrating SEVEN YEARS of Langhoff Creative! On one hand, it's crazy to think it's only been that long, and on the other, it feels like it's just always been this way. I thought it would be interesting to share seven of our lessons from the last seven years.
Every mom has been there... You know, those frustrating moments in the rush of the morning when your little ones are quite literally stepping on your toes and reaching for things you are trying to accomplish—including hot food on the stovetop...
Time flies, so squeeze the ones you love a little tighter. And, by all means, don't forget to D O C U M E N T even the simplest things! The present quickly becomes the past. Documenting beauty in the everyday causes us to remember it, cherish it, and pass it on.
When you're facing adversity, When you don't feel up to the task, When you're exhausted, When it seems risky to others...
Sounds easy, right? ...But yet we're still scrolling, glued to the highlight reels of everyone in our feeds. Maybe the real question is, "While you are sitting there, worried about what everyone else is doing, what potential highlights in your own life are you missing out on creating?" More thoughts on this are in this post.
The human connection is a powerful thing. I've been extra aware of this in the last couple weeks... We certainly were not designed to live life alone. I'm grateful for my tribe—near and far and new. This post also includes a little self-exam at the end.
We've spent months planning as a team and months on our knees praying for God's guidance and wisdom to follow His lead as we launch a second campus for our church here in the RDU area. Chad and I each have different roles for this campus, and we're SO excited for the launch this weekend!
I’ve been trying to master a few areas of life as a mom lately. It’s a work in progress. It's kind of exhausting. I’m 16 months postpartum and feeling the most “put together” I’ve felt thus far as a mother (which may not be saying a whole lot). BUT, when I slow down, let God lead me and simply enjoy the ride, THAT is precisely when I feel the most joy-filled; the most alive. What's the rush?
A couple days ago Chad took a few photos of me and Elias for a feature he was working on for his Hope Delivered® blog. He's beginning to share stories of hope to inspire others and thought he'd start with mine. Any other parents out there?? I think you will especially be able to relate with my Story of Hope.
Do you ever need a break? You know, like some time away, a change of pace, downtime, intentional quiet moments to sort your thoughts, an opportunity to catch up on other things, an escape from the expectations of others, a chance to soak in the current season of your life? Me too. Allow me to explain...
George is very passionate about baseball and his parents spend LOTS of time with him at the diamonds during this season. Having the "in action" moments captured of him on the Tigers team meant a great deal to them. Team portraits are nice to have, but check out this journalistic approach to sports photography. Go, George!
