Minimalist Bible: Creation Day 4

Written by Chad -

I've been a big fan of the minimalist poster designs. Taking something as complex as a person or a movie and stripping it down to one powerful graphical element that is instantly recognizable. I wanted to do something unique; something that had never been done before. So God hit me alongside the head with an idea: Bible stories. If you wish to see the previous posters, check out Creation Day 1Creation Day 2, and Creation Day 3 now.

Each Wednesday over the last few weeks, I have been unveiling my original minimalist poster series focused on the Creation story. Today I'm excited to release the fourth poster of the series, Creation Day 4.

Creation Day 4 comes from Genesis 1:14-18 (NLT) which says, "Then God said, 'Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.' And that is what happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good."

Think about this for a minute—on Day 1 God created light, but He didn't create the sun (what we often assume is the source of our light here on earth) until Day 4! MIND BLOWN 1... Also, it is written that God created all the stars of the sky, which, according to science, there are hundreds of billions of stars just in our Milky Way galaxy alone. We also know through science, that there are hundreds of billions of galaxies out there in our universe each with hundres of billions of stars of their own. If you are following me, on Day 4 God not only created the sun, moon and stars, but also the entire universe. MIND BLOWN 2...

All I'm saying is that Day 4 really showed me a new side of how powerful God is. He created light on Day 1, yet He put the light into the sun, moon and stars on Day 4 in order to help us keep track of the days, seasons and years and also to help us navigate the earth. It's just so fascinating to me that He thought of all of this before we were even created. I have always read over this without thinking about it, but God did create our solar system, our galaxy and the universe that surrounds us on the same day. And I thought my days were busy.
